Scab Disease on Poplar |
Name(s): Scab Disease. Venturia (probably V. inaequalis).
Type: Fungus.
Notes:
The Venturia fungus is responsible for loss of leaves and killing of shoots. Very common on Apples and Pears but also a problem on Poplar, Willow and Sorbus. The results can be very disfiguring and in some cases result in major crown loss.
The photo below shows typical symptoms for this disease where leaves die and shrivel but remain attached to the twig. The picture also shows the black lesions forming on the twigs at the base of the leafs petiole.
